On November 4, 1986, a body of an African American woman was discovered under a blanket. She was found near a Brooklyn highway and was strangled to death. This is especially true for master’s comps. Comprehensive exams are often administered to groups of students. In these cases, departments usually have a stack of old exams. Take advantage of these exams. Sure you likely will not see the same questions, but the exams can provide info about the kinds of questions to expect and the base of literature to know. Sometimes, however, comprehensive exams are tailored to each student. This is particularly true for doctoral comps. In this case, the student and advisor or sometimes a comprehensive examination committee work together to identify the range of topics covered in the exam. Consult with experienced students. More experienced graduate students have a lot to offer.  Look to students who have successfully completed their comps. Ask questions like: How are comps structured? How did they prepare? Otherwise, ask your mentor or a trusted faculty member. Be prepared with specific questions, such as how important is understanding and citing classic research as compared with current work? How is the exam organized? Ask for suggestions on how to prepare. Gather your study materials. Gather classic literature. Conduct literature searches to gather the newest most important pieces of research. Be careful because its easy to become consumed and overwhelmed with this part. You won’t be able to download and read everything. Make choices. Think about what you’re reading. It’s easy to get swept away with the task of reading, taking notes, and memorizing oodles of articles. Dont forget that you will be asked to reason about these readings, construct arguments, and discuss the material at a professional level. Stop and think about what youre reading. Identify themes in the literature, how particular lines of thinking evolved and shifted, and historical trends. Keep the big picture in mind and think about every article or chapter - what is its place in the field at large? Consider your situation. What are the challenges you face in preparing to take the comps? Locating and reading study materials, managing your time, keeping productive, and learning how to discuss the interrelations of theory and research are all part of studying for comps. Do you have a family? Roommate? Do you have the space to spread out? A quiet place to work? Think about all the challenges you face and then devise solutions. What specific action will you take to combat each challenge? Manage your time. Recognize that your time is limited. Many students, especially at the doctoral level, carve out time that they devote exclusively to studying - no working, no teaching, no coursework. Some take a month, others a summer or longer. You need to decide what to study and how much time to devote to each topic. Its likely that you have a better grasp of some topics than others, so distribute your study time accordingly. Devise a schedule and make a concerted effort to determine how you will fit in all of your studying.  Each week set goals. Each day should have a to-do list. Follow it. You will find that some topics take less time and other more time. Adjust your schedule and plans accordingly. Seek support. Remember that youre not alone in preparing for comps. Work with other students. Share resources and advice. Simply hang out and talk about how you’re approaching the task and help each other manage the stress. Consider creating a study group, set group goals, and then report your progress to your group. Even if no other students are preparing to take comps, spend time with other students. Reading and studying in isolation can lead to loneliness, which certainly isnt good for your morale and motivation.

The major complain by the customers is the defective steering system of the car. To resolve this problem and win back customer loyalty, Toyota has resorted to using quality tool to avert the issue. It becomes crucial for Toyota to come up with tools for measuring quality of the cars. Most of these tools are available for use. Pareto analysis is one the tool that is used for quality control. It is commonly referred to as 80/20 rule and was discovered by Vilifredo Pareto as he carried out his studies in wealth distribution. Interestingly, he discovered that 80% of wealth was controlled by 20% of the entire population. In today’s world, Pareto analysis basically means that 80% of quality issues in any end product are caused by 20% of the entire production processes. It therefore becomes important to indentify the few critical problems, solve them and drastically improve the quality of the end product. Using Pareto Analysis in Toyota The first procedure in using Pareto analysis is to identify the potential causes of poor quality.Through brainstorming among the Toyota engineers and surveys, several causes have been identified. The main objective is to identify items that result to poor quality cars. For example, Toyota that manufactures Toyota Prius has identified four potential causes that have made consumers return their cars because of poor steering system. The identified causes include: poor assembling procedures, poor braking system, faulty electronic installation and transit problem. The second procedure is to act upon every mentioned item. Careful assessment and analysis is carried out over a given period of time that gives a statistical sample. Quality control measures are then taken so as to resolve the potential causes identified in the first procedure. From our example, each time a car has been returned due to ‘poor assembling procedure’, we would add one to the tally for that cause. The process continues until we get the subtotals of the results. The third procedure involves summarizing and graphing of the results obtained from the previous procedures. To obtain the total number of defects, we total the numbers of each cause of defects. The percentage of each defect is obtained by dividing the subtotal of each defect against the total number of defects and then multiplying by 100. The obtained percentages are graphed in a histogram where poor quality is represented by the x-axis and the respective percentages on y-axis. The Pareto histogram is normally referred to as Pareto Chat. The final procedure involves interpretation of the graphed results. From the Pareto chart (see Appendix 1) it can be observed that almost 80% of the defective cars are caused by 20% of potential causes. Toyota can now create quality control measures to avert the steering system problem. To further understand Pareto analysis I have come up with fictional data showing the calculations and the histogram presentatio n. The data is shown in part 1 of appendix 1.The graphing of the results is shown in Appendix 1, Part 2. After careful analysis Toyota has perfected electronic installation in order to eliminate 67% of defective cars. The method used in body parts transit can also be resolved to eliminate further 22% defective cars. Conclusion Through out the paper quality has been discussed at length, and it remains the objective of Toyota to manufacture quality cars. Quality will not only guarantee customer satisfaction but also reduce the number of defective cars. Toyota and any other organization must employ procedures and processes that ensure the highest quality standards. It has been observed that companies that implement total quality management systems are able to produce quality products at minimal cost and meet customer expectations. The whole point of this documentary is to show the usefulness of expatriates, thus allowing natives to accept them as equal citizens. I chose three songs that would fit in with this documentary. They are Yahia Omar Gal Ma shan and Inna Wajdi by Ahmed Salmeen and Mudhena Wa Laisa by Rashed Al Hemeli. The reasons for these particular songs would be the representation of Bahrain. These two artists are popular Swat musicians. My target audience, anyone from Bahrain over the age of sixteen interested in the contributions of expatriates, would be familiar with these songs and format. Swat is a mixture of Persian, Indian, and African blues type. It is very mellow and upbeat, which is the tone I want for my documentary. I begin researching popular music from Bahrain. Swat was just one type of music I found on the Internet. Bahrain natives listens to various types of music, but Swat is the type that best described the mood I needed to get across to my audience. I went to http://zeryab.com/E/Aswat.htm. This had samples of Swat music. After listening to many samples of Swat artists, I chose Ahmen Salmeen and Rashed Al Hemeli. Their music was what I wanted to portray in my documentary. I mentioned three songs above, but both men have other selections I can chose as a backup if needed. The other reason I chose Swat is the Arabic influence. Bahrain is an Arabic country. Swat has the tone of the Imans' call for daily prayers. It is very moving for people with an Arabic background, or people who have chosen to live in the Middle East. The Swat music will make my documentary smoother. It will also hopefully make my audience more open to the message I am trying to send. Diary Entry To film this documentary I went to three diplomatic areas in Bahrain, filming around ten minutes. I went to the Bahrain Financial Harbor, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Education. While at these areas, I tried to film expatriates primarily. However, another focus was on expatriates and natives working together. At the Bahrain Financial Harbor, I filmed the outside of the beautiful building, before going in to film the expatriates. I interviewed several people, mostly men, but some women. After going to the Bahrain Financial Harbor, I went to the Ministry of Labor. Once again I filmed the outside, with people entry and leaving. I interviewed expatriates. I also decided to get some input from a few natives. All of the feedback I received was positive. Both expatriates and natives only had high regards for Bahrain. They portrayed Bahrain as a Middle Eastern country, but with all the amenities of the West. Finally, I went to the Ministry of Education. This stop helped me fil m more expatriates and natives working together. All together I filmed about an hour, which will be edited down to thirty minutes.

What everyone does not think about is the potential danger that drinking can cause, especially to the astonishing amount of college students who drink heavily on a regular basis. Alcohol abuse is the leading cause of death among teens and young adults, and according to many professionals, the high rate of binge-drinking and its effects on college students and the school or university is the top social issue on campuses. Despite all the attention given to this issue, especially in the past few years, no noticeable improvement has been seen. Drinking has even been called a â€Å"college pastime;† however, there is often a high price to pay for those who claim that they just want to have a good time, especially when it comes to the drinking that goes on at college campuses. It is a proven fact that young adults are among the heaviest drinkers in the United States, and college students tend to drink more than their non-college attending peers. Discuss Nationalism in the ERa of Good Feelings Essay

Nationalism, not sectionalism, was the driving force during the era of good feelings. Nationalism became the leading ideology of the American republic. While sectionalism proceeded in bringing the nation into turmoil and constant bickering among the politicians, as in the case with dealings leading to the Missouri compromise, nationalism was able to unite the nation into a headstrong body, led by an ever-increasing, more powerful central government. Nationalism, many can argue, was a guiding light that helped the populous in Europe unite. As early as the late great Roman Empire, it was that notion of being a part of a uniform body of civil, governed people who helped these places flourish. In early 19th century America, during the â€Å"Era of Good Feelings† as one newspaper put it, Americans began to root themselves in all that the nation stood for which helped them in turn begin to think about moving the United States into a respectable position among the world’s super powers. For example, Stephen Decatur toasts the country and acknowledges that it is our country, for better or for worse. This is a sharp contrast to the views of our founding fathers because George Washington himself, the â€Å"father of our nation†, saluted king George although he was a part of the attempt to establish a separate nation. Poets and writers also began to capture the nation’s spirit. In her Address to the New York State Legislature, Emma Hart Willard, explains how America has no problem in setting precedents and taking risks for the benefit of the country. For example, did the country take a risk in having a democracy instead of a monarchy? The answer to this question is yes, because no one in the history of the world before America, was able to successfully run a government the way that new nation ran. Although they had to switch from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution, this just proved that the nation could adapt with its people, thus setting precedents. Sectionalism only succeeded in dividing the country. This is because sectionalists always had their own agendas, which often clashed with that of their opposition. The division of votes on the tariff of 1816 was a pretty noticeable one, although the final vote was not really affected by  non-tariff votes. Sectionalism can be found here in the numbers of each region. The majority of New England Votes were cast against the tariff. This should be of no surprise because New England, which at the time was largely federalist, was against the whole war of 1812 effort from the get go. If it were not for the nationalistic pride of the western and southern regions, this protective tariff would have not been passed. Nationalism creates an atmosphere which attempts to propel the nation forward instead of becoming entangled in issues which cause a separation of agendas, thought, and eventually causes a rift in peoples beliefs. The nationalism brought about by the Era of Good feelings helped the United States get on track to becoming what it is today. If you look at current events, you can see that the United States operates with more fluidity when we have a common enemy instead of creating enemies out of our brethren because of our ideals.

The U.S. Constitution states that once confirmed by the Senate, a justice serves for life. He or she is not elected and does not need to run for office, although they may retire if they wish. This means that Supreme Court justices can serve through multiple presidential terms. That was intended to at least partly insulate the justices so they need not take politics into account when making Constitutional decisions that will affect the entire U.S. population for decades or even centuries. Of the 114 justices who have sat on the bench since the Supreme Court was established in 1789, 49 died in office; the last to do so was Antonin Scalia in 2016. Fifty-six retired, the latest being Anthony Kennedy in 2018. The average length of stay is about 16 years. Supreme Court Justices can be impeached and removed from the court if they do not maintain â€Å"good behavior.† Only two Supreme Court Justices have ever been impeached. John Pickering (served 1795–1804) was charged with mental instability and intoxication on the bench and was impeached and removed from office on March 12, 1804.
